Our charity

Over the years we have supported many charities close to our hearts. This year we have chosen The Farming Community Network (FCN) - a voluntary organisation and charity that works tirelessly to support farmers and their families across England and Wales through tough times. This year marks FCN’s 25th anniversary.

FCN runs a free, confidential Helpline (03000 111 999) and helps thousands of people every year deal with a variety of issues, including financial difficulties, animal disease, mental health and family disputes.

Whilst UK farmers are renowned for the attention they give to their livestock, crops and machinery, it can be difficult for them to find the time to take care of themselves and their own wellbeing.

There are a number of mental health risk factors associated with agriculture. Farmers work long hours, often in isolation. They can be under significant financial pressure, often required to take on significant debt to purchase the land and equipment required to operate. And in most cases, a farmer’s place of business is also his or her home, meaning there is no easy way to get away from the workload. In addition, farmers are constantly vulnerable to unusual events and circumstances that can impact their bottom line — from weather and natural disasters to international trade disputes.

We all have a collective responsibility to do something about the issue of poor mental health and the risk of suicide and every one of us has a role to play. Increased understanding, and discussions around mental health will, in time, reduce the stigma experienced by those who have mental ill-health.

At Nettlecombe Farm we are pleased to be able to offer a number of free holidays and breaks to individuals and their families who are impacted by the struggles associated with mental health and wellbeing within the farming community.
