Environmental Stewardship
Whilst Nettlecombe has been in the Morris family for generations, we know that we are only guardians of this special piece of Isle of Wight countryside. Everything we do goes towards protecting and enhancing this beautiful corner of the Island for future generations.
Practical examples of this commitment include:
- Delivering environmental education: we open the farm to over 25 schools for educational visits each year to learn about the working farm and the animals in our care.
- Promoting sustainable travel: we have been recognised with a Green Star for our commitment to sustainable travel schemes, which our guests can take advantage of if you would like a car-free holiday.
- Protecting vulnerable species: our working farm is situated in an important area for the conservation of skylarks and hares, so we graze rather than plough to maintain their breeding grounds.
- Keeping things simple: our luxurious cottages are well-equipped, warm and spacious. Where they have been renovated, this has been done sympathetically, and in keeping with traditional building methods and styles. We don’t provide the indoor gyms or swimming pools that you might find at a country club – our guests prefer a swim at one of the local award-winning beaches or a stomp up to the Downs.
