At Nettlecombe Farm, the festive season has become even more magical with the arrival of two adorable new additions to our animal family: baby reindeer Cupid and Blitzen! If there’s one thing that can make a farmer’s Christmas extra special, it’s welcoming these enchanting creatures to the herd.

Introducing Cupid and Blitzen

Cupid and Blitzen, both male, have joined our older reindeer, Dancer, just in time to spread holiday cheer to all our visitors. These playful and spirited newcomers have already brought joy to the farm and are bound to be the highlight of the season for everyone who meets them.

Little Cupid, who has quickly earned the nickname “Piglet,” has an insatiable appetite and is always on the lookout for his next snack. Meanwhile, Blitzen is settling in beautifully and enjoys the attention and care from our team.

Fascinating Reindeer Facts You May Not Know

Reindeer are extraordinary animals, with some truly remarkable traits. Here are a few fun facts about them:

  1. Speedy Sprinters: Within just 90 minutes of being born, reindeer calves can run as fast as an Olympic sprinter. In mere hours, they’re capable of keeping up with the herd—a critical skill in the wild.
  2. Red-Nosed Reality: It turns out Rudolph’s iconic red nose has some truth to it! Reindeer noses are filled with tiny veins that circulate warm blood, helping heat the air they breathe. This keeps them warm and cosy even in freezing temperatures.
  3. Longstanding Companions: The Sámi people of Scandinavia and the Kola Peninsula in Russia have herded and relied on reindeer as draught animals since the 17th century. Their bond with reindeer is a cornerstone of their culture.

A Special Christmas on the Farm

At Nettlecombe, José and Tallulah have taken on the delightful task of training Cupid and Blitzen to walk on headcollars and leading reins. They’ve made impressive progress, showcasing the intelligence and charm of these animals.

What could be better than spending Christmas surrounded by reindeer as your neighbours? Whether it’s their playful antics, fascinating history, or the sheer magic they bring to the season, Cupid and Blitzen are sure to create unforgettable memories for everyone who visits.

We can’t wait to share the joy of these delightful reindeer with you this festive season. Come and meet Cupid, Blitzen, and Dancer, and experience the magic of Christmas at Nettlecombe Farm.

Happy Christmas from all of us (and our reindeer family) at Nettlecombe Farm!
