Green Award - Gold Winners
Nettlecombe Farm was delighted to be presented with a Gold Green Impact Award at this year’s awards ceremony at Calbourne Water Mill on the 3rd of February. The awards are coordinated by SOS-UK and supported by the Isle of Wight Council and concentrate on companies green and eco credentials and how they create more sustainable working environments.
Jose Morris, owner of Nettlecombe Farm which has been welcoming guests for over forty years said, ‘Whilst Nettlecombe has been in the Morris family for generations, we know that we are only guardians of this special piece of Isle of Wight countryside. Everything we do goes towards protecting and enhancing this beautiful corner of the Island for future generations and we’re super proud of our team who have gone above and beyond in implementing changes and doing things more environmentally year on year.’
Amongst the initiatives undertaken by staff and the family at the farm are delivering environmental education by opening the farm to over 25 schools a year and promoting sustainable travel with an EV charging point, cycle path and walking maps, and sustainable travel schemes. As a working farm, Nettlecombe is situated in an important conservation area and so is instrumental in the preservation of wildlife including skylarks and hares by grazing rather than ploughing fields.
On the holiday let front, all of the cottages have been renovated sympathetically in keeping with traditional methods and styles and there is no swimming pool or gym at the farm, with guests being encouraged to swim at the local award-winning beach and take walks in the countryside. Staff are always looking at ways to improve sustainability and green credentials – products with minimal environmental impact are sourced, packaging is recyclable and services and energy-efficient equipment are bought locally.
