Green Star Gold Award
Nettlecombe Farm has been rewarded for its sustainable approach.
A rural Island business has become the latest to reach the gold standard in Visit IW's green tourism awards.
Nettlecombe Farm has been awarded the Green Star Gold Award due to its sustainable approach to tourism. Nettlecombe has a number of self catering cottages set in the countryside at Whitwell as well as fishing lakes, country walks and animals for petting.
But its green transport initiatives including free transport to and from Shanklin Station if guests don't bring a car, free bus travel and free electricity and charging points for electric cars(*), that have racked up the points for the farm in the Visit IOW scheme.
A Strava mapping account and a walking guide are other plus points in its green tourism initiatives. The farm also offers fresh water for passing dogs and walkers and there is a toilet for walkers and cyclists to use for free.
"We are working incredibly hard to encourage people to come and stay wtihout cars" said owner Josie Morris.
